    Get PDF
Housing finance in developing countries is not readily available, and access to which is increasingly becoming difficult. The government has not been able to tackle the problem of housing shortages, especially in cities, as caused by population growth and increased urbanisation rate. There is, therefore, the need for interest groups like cooperative societies to come in. The study aimed at assessing the factors determining cooperative societies’ housing finance acceptance in Gombe to identify the descriptive levels of variables, adopting the Theory of Planned Behaviour. Using stratified random sampling, close-ended structured questionnaires designed in 5-point Likert Scale were used to get a total of 283 valid questionnaires used for the analysis. The findings supported the fitness of the traditional variables of TPB in predicting willingness to accept the present (study’s) housing financing model. The levels of the research model’s constructs were very high performance based on their mean and standard deviation. Thus, all the constructs can fit into the research model. The study recommends a further analysis to determine the statistical relationship among the model’s constructs to validate the TPB in this domain

The paper presented an assessment of the resource potentials of composting organic waste mate-rials arising from the municipal solid waste stream from cities in Nigeria. Through a review of quantitative data, the composition of municipal solid waste arising within cities in Nigeria was examined in order to identify the potentials for composting organic materials from the waste stream composition. The data showed that the average majority of the waste stream was organic materials which implied high potentials for composting organic waste materials from Nigerian ci-ties. The review also identified further potentials for composting was associated with the large population and the majority of them engaged in agriculture, as a high potential market for com-post manure in Nigeria. There were more potentials derivable from the current policies of im-porting and supplying chemical fertilizer with huge subsidies for domestic agriculture in the country. The need to substitute these policies of chemical fertilizer with the use of compost ma-nure implied high potentials for composting in the country. The paper also identified numerous benefits of composting in general and with particular reference to the Nigerian situation which in-cludes, among others a reduction of the vast quantity of solid waste for final disposal, reducing air pollution and ground water leachate and also employment generation and increased income. Therefore, the paper recommended a deliberate government policy to promote composting of or-ganic solid wastes material and marketing of compost manure to substitute the current policies of importing chemical fertilizer with subsidy for domestic agriculture as a strategy to achieve sus-tainable waste management in Nigeria

Validation of housing satisfaction constructs using different perspectives is necessary with increasing relevance of Modelling in post occupancy evaluation (POE). This paper used building components theory to identify tangible and intangible building features and assess the factorial validity of the constructs, with the intention to create substantial and reliable measurement models which can efficiently measure occupants’ satisfaction constructs in public housing evaluation. A total of 300 questionnaires were administered in Gombe metropolis, Nigeria. Some 246 were collected, and 212 were used for final analysis after data screening. Tangible and intangible building satisfaction constructs were produced as independent latent constructs while building component satisfaction as the dependent latent construct. The validity of the constructs was confirmed by AMOS software. Results demonstrated the factorability of occupants’ satisfaction using building components, tangible and intangible features, and provided a standard for a holistic understanding of building satisfaction components. Hence, this supports the use of building component theory in POE studies. Future studies can identify the relationship between dependent and independent building satisfaction construct. Findings are useful for performance evaluation in public housing studies, Users’ satisfaction analyses and formulation of policies to achieve public housing satisfaction

Population explosion, high urbanization and improved living standards have induced rapid changes in quantities and materiacompositions of solid waste generation globally. Until recently solid waste disposal in landfills and open dump sites waconsidered more economical and it is the most widely used methods in developing countries. Hence the potentials in the othealternative methods such as the resource recovery and recycling and their integration into waste management have been scarcelassessed. However, the ever growing challenges posed by the rapidly increasing quantities and compositions of solid wastes ideveloping countries led to the searching for alternative waste disposal methods. In this regard the paper presented an assessmenof the resource potentials of municipal solid waste materials arising from cities in developing countries as a strategy fosustainable solid waste management. Using published data on solid waste composition the paper has identified that there is higpotentials of composting in the solid waste stream from cities in developing countries. In conclusion, it recommended the recoverof organic waste material and papers for composting and the recycling of plastic, metals, textiles and others to explore their resource recovery potentials. This will largely reduce the ultimate quantities of solid waste for disposal and lower the operatincosts. This strategy will achieve sustainable waste management in developing countries. It is hoped that the paper has provided useful guide for wastes management policy decisions in developing countries

In any flooding, houses are the component that is most extensively damaged, and repeatedly represents the greatest portion of the loss in the overall impact of a disaster on the national economy. In October 2012, a flood devastated 14 States in Nigeria that included Kogi where safe actions on victims' rehabilitation, recovery and risk vulnerability reduction were swiftly taken through post-disaster housing reconstruction developments. However, the implementation of some of the resolutions was inadequately done due to non-availability of basic guidelines for the reconstruction processes. This research aims to develop a post-disaster housing reconstruction framework for flood victims in Nigeria. Fifty questionnaires were administered to the 2012 flood victims out of which 43 constituting 86% was valid for analysis using SPSS. This report reveals the results of the pilot study conducted before carrying out the main survey to collect information from target respondents. The pilot study shall help to minimise errors in the questionnaire, warrants the smooth running of the survey, ease the response rate, and offer a useful and valuable inquiry. The results include the descriptive statistics, reliability test, content and construct validity, the normality test, and factorability. The values of skewness and kurtosis were all within the recommended limit of -/+2, which indicates the normal distribution of all the constructs of the study. The summary of the reliability test for each construct of the post-disaster housing reconstructionquestionnaire, are Effectiveness of reconstruction strategies, 0.966; Resource mobilisation strategies, 0.772; Resilience strategies, 0.866, Reconstruction approaches, 0.816, Issues experienced, 0.944, and the Community satisfaction with reconstruction strategies have a value 0.902 for Cronbach alpha coefficient. The results are a positive indicator to use the instrument for the main survey. Keywords:Floods impact, Flood victims, Housing, Post-disaster housing reconstruction, Pilot study, Nigeri

With development of the globe, the need for information technology such as GIS, DATABASE in most administration system including lands. Become crucial, Geographic Information System (GIS) is a configuration of computer hardware, software and data specifically designed to capture, process, analyze, manipulate, edit store, retrieve and display spatially referenced information. Being a computer-based system, GIS is a robust, reliable and versatile technology that can be use and adopted in managing both spatial and attribute data in text and graphic form thereby making it most suitable for land administration and other related purposes. This write up postulated that the analogue (pen and paper) which is present manual system of processing land records such as filing, recording, storing and retrieval of information relating to land administration can no longer be held continuously in this era of technological development where information technology become the vital tool of any administrative system. To go again backdrop of globalization in the term of information technology of this era of technology, land administration, land management, land ownership and land development become the most important subject concern, where there need of facilitating land administration system and process such as timely registration, ensuring security of tenure, availability of land information, simplification of application process, transparency, facilitating of property market, minimizing corruption index, efficient land market, system of reference and information for land policy design etc. perhaps this facilitation will become achievable by use ofGIS technology in land administration of state

The explore the effect of service quality, service price and infrastructural provision on customers’ satisfaction and how that is translated to customer patronage of a game reserve called Yankari, in Bauchi state, Nigeria. Survey strategy was used to collect data from 351 visitors of the game reserve using selfadministered questionnaire. The results indicated highest levels of service quality in water supply services, health and safety services, natural recreational services and swimming facilities services, while least service quality in response services and sales services respectively. There is weak relationship between services price and services quality, and negligible relationship between services price, visitors’ satisfaction, infrastructure provided, infrastructure preferred, and patronage. Infrastructural provision, services price, and services quality explained 7.3% small significant effect size on visitors’ patronage. Infrastructural Provision is making a significant negative unique effect to the visitors’ patronage. Services Price has the lowest insignificant contribution in explaining the visitors’ patronage. However, Infrastructural provision, service price, service quality explained 34.5% large significant effect on visitors’ satisfaction, but the services quality is making a statistically significant unique contribution on the visitors’ patronage, while services price has lowest and insignificant contribution. Infrastructural facilities in the park should give more emphasis on response services and sales services. The infrastructural provision in the area should be based on the basic requirements not visitor’s preference. There is need to conduct more extensive studies in other recreational/tourism centres to be able to generalize the results of this study to other game reserves, parks, and recreational/tourism centres
